“In the 1980s, researcher W. C. Wolverton of the Stennis Space Center investigated how to maximize the air purification potential of houseplants. He found that, perhaps counterintuitively, the roots of plants and associated microorganisms in the soil did most of the work, rather than the leaves of the plants. Based on this research, AIRY GreenTech, a company based in Hamburg, Germany, has designed plant pots that maximize airflow through the soil and roots to increase air filtration and improve plant health.
