Caring for an Areca Palm (we offer the Dypsis lutescens) is quite straightforward. This elegant palm brings tropical flair to any room and is low-maintenance.

Especially cool: The Areca Palm is a true air purifier. It filters pollutants like formaldehyde and benzene from the air, thereby demonstrably improving indoor air quality.

Care instructions for the Areca Palm

Location

Place the Areca Palm in a bright spot with indirect light. A location near a window is ideal, but avoid direct sunlight as it can burn the delicate fronds. The palm also thrives in medium light conditions but will grow more slowly.

Temperature

Goldfruchtpalmen prefer a constant temperature between 18°C and 24°C. They do not tolerate sudden temperature fluctuations and should be protected from drafts. In winter, the temperature should not fall below 15°C.

Watering

The Goldfruchtpalme likes it evenly moist, but never waterlogged! The mineral substrate in the AIRY system allows optimal drainage. Fill the water tank completely and then let it run empty. Wait about 2-3 days before watering again. The top substrate layer should dry slightly between waterings. Waterlogging quickly leads to root rot!

Fertilizing

Fertilize your Goldfruchtpalme every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a liquid houseplant fertilizer or with our AIRY Booster. In autumn and winter, fertilizing every 8-10 weeks is sufficient or you can pause completely. Over-fertilization leads to brown leaf tips!

Pests and diseases

Goldfruchtpalmen can occasionally be infested by spider mites, scale insects, or mealybugs. These occur especially in dry air. Inspect the fronds regularly, especially the undersides. If infested, treat with a mild insecticide or neem oil. Brown or yellow fronds should be cut off at the stem.

If your Goldfruchtpalme gets fungus gnats (small black flies), you should act very quickly as these flies reproduce super fast.

Humidity

The Goldfruchtpalme loves higher humidity of 40-60%. In dry heated air during winter, you can occasionally spray the fronds with low-lime water.

Cleaning

The feathered fronds of the Goldfruchtpalme tend to collect dust. Gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth or rinse them under a lukewarm shower. In summer, the Goldfruchtpalme also enjoys warm rain on the terrace – but please do not leave it in direct sunlight. Basically: Clean leaves can perform photosynthesis better!

Enjoy your Goldfruchtpalme!
