Flamingoblume (Anthurie)

Flamingo flower (Anthurium)

The flamingo flower, also called anthurium, is not only an eye-catcher with its shiny leaves and bright bracts, but also an undemanding houseplant – if you know what matters. Here you will find the most important tips on location, watering, fertilizing, and care – so that your anthurium stays healthy, strong, and beautiful for a long time.

The flamingo flower or anthurium is a beautiful plant that will be happy if you follow these care tips:

  1. Location: Place your anthurium in a bright spot, but without direct sunlight. A bright location with indirect light is ideal. Too much sun can burn the leaves, so be careful.

  2. Temperature and humidity: Anthuriums like it warm. Living and work rooms are ideal. Keep the room temperature preferably between 20°C and 25°C. Anthuriums do not like to sit in water, but they appreciate high humidity.

  3. Watering: Water your anthurium regularly, but let the substrate dry out slightly between waterings. Your water level indicator shows MIN? Great, then you can water again tomorrow (or the day after). Waterlogging and a constantly full water tank can lead to root rot.

  4. Fertilizing: Fertilize your anthurium about every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a balanced, liquid houseplant fertilizer. In winter, you can reduce or stop fertilizing.

  5. Care and cleaning: Regularly remove dust from the leaves with a soft cloth or a gentle shower. You can carefully cut off damaged or dead leaves to promote the plant's health.

  6. Pests and diseases: Watch for signs of pests like spider mites or aphids. If you find any, take appropriate measures to combat them. Isolate the plant and use insecticides if necessary.

With these tips, your anthurium will stay healthy and happy. Watering and light conditions should be adapted to the location in your home.
Enjoy your anthurium!
