Caring for a birch fig (Ficus exotica) in mineral substrate can be somewhat different than in conventional potting soil, as the substrate meets special requirements.
Here are a few tips for you:
- Watering: Make sure to water the birch fig moderately and let the substrate dry well between waterings. Does your water level indicator show MIN? Then wait another 2-3 days before watering fully again. A good trick is to pour about 1/3 of the water over the substrate and the rest into the water tank.
- Light: Your birch fig needs bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burns. A bright spot near a window is perfect.
- Temperature and humidity: Your birch fig feels most comfortable at room temperatures between 18°C and 24°C. It can tolerate slightly lower temperatures but should be protected from drafts and sudden temperature changes. Humidity should be moderate, but normal indoor humidity is also fine.
- Fertilization: During the growing season (spring and summer), fertilize your birch fig every 4-6 weeks with a balanced, liquid fertilizer or our AIRY Booster. In autumn and winter, you should refrain from fertilizing. Here too: less is more!
- Care: Regularly remove dust from the leaves with a soft cloth, our LeafLove gloves, or a gentle shower.
- Pests and diseases: Watch out for pests like spider mites, aphids, and scale insects. If your plant is infested, take appropriate measures to combat the pests. Our chatbot will give you tips.
By following these tips, you can ensure that your birch fig in the AIRY grows healthy and happy.
