Caring for a Monstera Deliciosa (also called Swiss cheese plant) in mineral substrate is quite easy if you know the Monstera's needs.
Here are a few care tips:
- Watering: Make sure the substrate never dries out completely. Water whenever the water level indicator is at MIN with stale or low-lime water. Please do not keep the level constantly at one height; the Monstera does not like that.
-
Light: The Monstera Deliciosa requires bright, indirect sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight as it can cause leaf burns. A window with curtains or blinds that filter the light is ideal.
Since it comes from the rainforest, it can also grow well in less bright rooms—but then without curtains. - Temperature and humidity: Keep the room temperature between 18°C and 26°C. Cold is not good for it. The Monstera thrives in higher humidity, so it is helpful to occasionally spray the leaves with water. Please do not place it on a windowsill above a heater.
- Fertilizing: During the growth period in spring and summer, fertilize the plant every 4 to 6 weeks with a balanced, liquid houseplant fertilizer or our AIRY Booster. In autumn and winter, you can reduce or stop fertilizing altogether.
- Caring for the vines: If the plant develops vines, you can gently attach them to a support frame to help it climb. This creates an attractive appearance and prevents the vines from breaking.
- Pests and diseases: Regularly check the plant for pests like spider mites and aphids as well as signs of diseases such as yellow leaves or brown spots. Act early if problems arise.
With this care guide, your Monstera Deliciosa should thrive healthily and splendidly in mineral substrate. Remember that every plant is individual, and it may take some time to understand its needs precisely. Observe it carefully and adjust the care accordingly.
